Workshop: Acceptance testing in Node.js using Casper.js

OVERVIEW: CasperJS is an open source navigation scripting & testing framework for the Node.js platform. In the workshop, we will write end to end functional tests for a typical web application using Casper JS. We'll learn how we can test end to end business flows from UI such as logging in, clicking buttons and links, submitting forms etc.

1. Why acceptance testing
2. How to write meaningful acceptance tests
3. What differentiates Node from regular JavaScript
4. When and where to use Casper JS

PRE-REQUISITES: For the workshop, participants can bring their laptops with the latest stable Node.js and npm installed. Basic knowledge about JavaScript is expected. Carry any good IDE/text editor where you can write JavaScript. (We'll use Sublime Text during the workshop)

Talk: Typescript - A developer friendly Javascript

The talk will be focused on the benefits of Typescript from developers’ perspective. During the session we will go through simple code samples to demonstrate how ‘typesafety’ in Typescript can help us catch errors at compile time, resulting in a faster development cycle. This also enables IDEs to provide better refactoring and intellisense support to boost development of large chunks of code. We will also take a look at how Typescript can help in modularization of huge projects with the help of ‘Modules’.

Talk: Building a bookshelf with Bookshelf.js and Ember.js

We will try and build a small application using Bookshelf.js and Ember.js and go over the benefits of using a javascript ORM like Bookshelf which not only gives us the standard relation mapping but also the freedom to create custom queries, eager loading and dynamic relations.
